It’s a Beautiful Wound, written and performed by Rich Orloff, is a one-person show and the true story of Rich’s adventures in underground therapy using MDMA (a.k.a. Ecstasy) and psilocybin mushrooms.
These sessions, based on cutting-edge experiments to help people heal from deep psychological wounds, propel Rich beyond his ego and defenses into a journey that both challenges his perceptions and reveals possibilities he never before considered. Inspired by the autobiographical monologues of Spalding Gray, It’s a Beautiful Wound takes the audience through the experience of psychedelic-assisted therapy in an honest, amusing, and deeply compelling way.
But the show is about more than just psychedelics. Ultimately, It’s a Beautiful Wound is about one person’s journey towards reconciliation with the soul.
It’s a Beautiful Wound is performed with minimalist staging. Rich is seen and heard on stage with a chair and a table, on which there is a script, a glass of water, a pack of tissues, and perhaps – a vase of flowers.
Nice to know: Rich Orloff is also the writer of the comedy Big boys (Isot pojat), which will have its premiere and Finnish-language premiere on 8.2.2025 in Joensuu City Theater.

It’s a Beautiful Wound (Kaunis haava) on Rich Orloffin käsikirjoittama ja esittämä monologi sekä tositarina hänen seikkailuistaan vaihtoehtoterapian parissa, jossa lääkityksenä käytettiin MDMA:ta (ekstaasia) ja psilosybiinisieniä.
Nämä terapiaistunnot, jotka perustuivat kärkiluokan kokeiluihin ja joiden tarkoituksena oli auttaa ihmisiä parantumaan syvistä psykologisista haavoista, ajoivat Richin egonsa ja puolustuskykynsä yli matkalle, joka haastoi hänen käsityksensä ja paljasti mahdollisuuksia, joita hän ei koskaan ennen harkinnut.
Spalding Grayn omaelämäkerrallisten monologien innoittama It’s a Beautiful Wound vie katsojan psykedeeliavusteisen terapian kokemuksen läpi rehellisellä, hauskalla ja syvästi vakuuttavalla tavalla.
Mutta esitys on enemmän kuin vain psykedeelejä. Viime kädessä It’s a Beautiful Wound kertoo yhden ihmisen matkasta kohti sovintoa sielun kanssa.
